Where Are the Books on Grammar?

Ben Franklin, early American grammarian

DeWitt Library uses the Library of Congress Classification system.  On Grammar, the following shelf sections would be worth browsing (depending on what you are looking for):

  • P151 - P295: Works on Grammar, Comparative and General
  • PE1065 - PE1112:  Works on English Language - Grammar
  • PE1065 - PE1066, PE1404, LB1576: Works on Teaching Grammar

All these sections are located on the 2nd floor of the DeWitt Learning Commons.

Using E-books

A search of WorldCat will usually turn up many e-books. E-books can be used directly from the catalog. Once you click on a particular e-book title and are in the record for that item, go to the Check Availability section of the record and click on the View eBook link (see the following example):

You should find yourself on a page like the following (most of our e-books are through EBSCO). The easiest way to use this book is to click on the PDF Full Text link (see where the arrow is pointing below). Using the eBook this way works so long as you are online and, if off campus, fully logged in to the DeWitt site as a user.

There is second way to use such an item: clicking on the Download This eBook link under the PDF Full Text link. For this to work, though, you need

  1. an EBSCO account
  2. an Adobe account
  3. Adobe Digital Editions software.

Further, downloading the item checks it out for a week and makes it unavailable to other users (not the case when you use the PDF Full Text).
