Paper Two Writing Prompt

Space & Time: Micro and Macro

For this paper,  read Chapters 5 & 6 of The Philosphy of Physics by Dean Rickles. (It might be good to review Chapters 1 & 2 again.)

Please consider the following questions in your paper:

  • In layperson terms, describe how present theories of space and time intersect with determinism.
  • In layperson terms, describe the physics entropy and uncertainty.
  • Comment on arguments surrounding determinism and if they are apppropriately grounded in physics.
  • Choose one argument or philosphical position in the two chapters to critique: What are the strengths of the argument? What are the weaknesses? Do you think the argument engages with the physics in a helpful/correct way? If relevant, how does this treatment of the argument compare to other sources that have engaged in the same topic?
