Follow the Path of Research - ProQuest Psychology Databases

Be sure to use the bibliographies and citation notes to find other sources.  In ProQuest, pay attention to the References and Cited by notes:

  1. When looking at an article record, note the References and Cited by numbers.

  2. References is a web bibliography, allowing you to easily get other related articles.  These are articles that came BEFORE the article you are looking at, so it shows the research that led to this particular paper.

  3. Cited by shows other articles in the database that cite this particular article.  These, therefore, are articles that came AFTER the article you are looking at, which can be helpful in finding out how the research progressed.

Follow the Path of Research - Google Scholar

Be sure to use the Cited By tools in Google Scholar.

  1. Noted the Cited by under an article.

  2. Click on the "Cited by" link to find other articles that cited the article you are looking at.  Remember, these are articles that came AFTER the article, so they will show the progression of research.
