What is a Library Database?

A library database is a searchable online catalog or index containing information about published items.

The types of material found in databases include articles from journals/magazines/newspapers, electronic books, images, and reference sources.

Databases provide citation information that consists of the author's name, the title of the article, source (the title of the journal, magazine, newspaper), publisher, and date of publication. Citations may also provide abstracts (summary of the article).

Databases contain full text (entire article) in HTML or PDF format.
